Trying to Figure it Out

Grace Kelly (a name that EVERY high school student should know - more on that soon) was talking with her mom one day, struggling,

“I was having a conversation with my mom, right before I wrote this song, and I was kind of having a bad day.  I was saying to her, “you know, I wish I could have done this thing … if I only did … I would have love to have changed that … and my mom said, “Well you can’t change that now, but you can keep moving forward, and you put one foot in front of the other, and when one door closes, there’s another one that’s opening.  You just cannot see it in the moment” and I was really moved by her words and I sat down at a piano and I wrote out some lyrics.  And in an hour, I had this song, which is such a gift.”

We had the distinct honor of performing with Grace Kelly as pandemic restrictions began easing in the spring of 2021; there was no better way to come back than with a soulful, heartfelt tune called, “Trying To Figure It Out.”

If you, or your students, are not familiar with Grace and her music, you need to stop what you are doing (yep, even mid-concert) and go find her on Instagram or Tik Tok.  Not on Instagram?  Too bad, download it (RIGHT NOW) and follow @gkellymusic and, while you’re at it, toss a follow our way @afterhoursjazzproject.
